- 40 Comments about On hiatus
The Precarious editorial team is in the process of reinvesting in our vision, strengths and possibilities of making this project creative and engaging. In order to do this, we are taking a hiatus to reflect on our work, to think through what news and documentary are, how they might be made more interesting, and how we can involve a broader array of people in our process.
We are reassessing our scale of production, the types of media we are working in, our style of reporting, the way we choose topics, how we treat that content, the quality of dialogue we are building with our audience and our process of creation.
The Facebook-driven information economy further alienates people from each other, reduces the depth of experience and turns human stories into memes. We believe that challenging how we tell stories and investigate issues can bring people together, forge relationships, build power and lead toward liberation and action—not simply news consumption.
What new forms might this project take? How will the website continue to reflect our work? What will the nature of our work be? We are curious about all of these questions and look forward to reflecting on them—possibly with you.
As journalists, documentarians, writers and cultural producers, our obligation is to shake up the stagnant world of online news and explore new communication possibilities.
We will be documenting this process and update you about our progress.
This hiatus may take time but rest assured it is necessary for us to improve our efforts, maximize our creativity and dig as deeply as we can into innovative ways of telling stories.
As we go through this process, we invite you to contact us and share your thoughts at [email protected]
